Is your online training really approved by New York State?
Yes. Art of Protection Services LLC is an approved training school certified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). Our live online Zoom classes satisfy the state's training requirements for unarmed security guards.
Which course do I need to get started?
If you're new to security work, start with the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training ($60). Passing this course is required before you can apply for your Security Guard Registration Card with the NYS Department of State.
What is the 16-Hour On-the-Job Training, and when do I need it?
The 16-Hour OJT ($120) is the second required course. New York State requires you to complete it within 90 days of starting work as a security guard. You can bundle it with your Pre-Assignment class in our Full Package for $180 and save.
How do I keep my guard license active?
Registered guards must complete the 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training ($60) every year to keep their NYS registration in good standing. We run this course regularly online so you can renew without missing work.
How are the classes taught? Do I have to come in person?
All security guard courses are 100% online, delivered live over Zoom by DCJS-certified instructors. You can attend from home or anywhere with a reliable internet connection — no commuting required.
When do I get my certificate?
The same day. Once you finish your class and pass the exam, we email your certificate of completion right away so you can move on to the next step of the licensing process.
What happens after I finish the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment course?
Two more steps stand between you and your guard card:
1. Get fingerprinted through IdentoGO using service code 1545R1 for the state background check.
2. Submit your Security Guard Application to the NYS Department of State, Division of Licensing Services.
We guide every student through both steps.
What are the requirements to become a security guard in NY?
You must be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, pass the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment course, and clear the fingerprint-based background check.
